I, during the first week of August, will be embracing one of the older and dearest of American traditions by taking a road-trip! This extensive journey will take me from my home displacing me in various locations about the mid-east US including St. Louis, Missouri, Memphis in Tennessee, New Orleans near the river delta, and then through Houston back home to Fort Worth.

Ah the sights and smells of road-trips. Do you get to enjoy these or have you in the past? Do you hate them and consider flying to be a superior means by which to navigate your country? Are road-trips even something that your are able to readily embark upon in your country?

Inquiring minds would like to know...

I would love to drive across America in an old Mustang. One of my things to do before i die.

You cant really have a road trip in the Uk. I mean you can, but you can drive from one end to the other in a day (if you push yourself) so its not really the same thing. Plus it doesnt quite have the same ring to it, as a road trip across the US.

I love road trips, so long as I'm not driving. ^_^

Lol, could you imagine, "I'm going on a road trip!!!". 2 days later..... "I'm back!!!"

I've always loved the idea of going across the US by car, of course I would have to learn to drive first. Unless it was in a convertible though I'd probably hate it as I get car sick

LOVE road trips! My sister and I did it - I drove from Spring City, TN to Nashville to get my sister, then we went through Memphis, Little Rock (i think? maybe not), Oklahoma City, through Texas - Amarillo, Vega, another small town, New Mexico - Tucumcari, Gallup, Albuquerque, then to the amazing state of Arizona - Holbrook, Flagstaff, then down to my FAV city on the planet - Phoenix!!

We also made a point to drive on Route 66 (which 40 actually -is- Route 66 in some places 'cuz the old road stops for small chunks of distance).

Ohh how I love traveling!

I absolutely adore road trippin'! Road trips are magical--you're stuck in a car with people for days on end, you get into horrible fights along the way, but somehow after the road trip is done, your bond has grown stronger with your fellow road trippers. I guess it proves the true endurance of friendship.

I think my favorite road trip was to North Carolina with my sister. We drove from CT allll the way down there in one straight shot, only stopping for half hour naps at truck stops. Bad idea, but it was fun. On the way home, I was so exhausted and delirious that I was literally hallucinating that the clouds I saw in my rear view mirror were giant white birds attacking my car. Now THAT was funny.

I've never been on a road trip, but it sounds fairly horrible, haha. I mean, I'd love the experience of going to different states and such, but as a kid I used to take long trips in the car all the time with my family...plus I get motion sickness...so yeah.

Everyone who goes on them loves the experience, though. Maybe when I'm older and more patient.

You don't really get motion sickness if you're driving, so that's always a plus, haha.

^ Oh really? Another reason to learn then haha.

Had anyone seen that film Kalifornia? After seeing that, if I went on a road trip I would vet everyone beforehand

You know what, sometimes I actually get really motion sick when I drive, hahaha. Usually it'll happen if I get lost and I have to turn around a lot--especially if I have to turn around in a really tight spot or do some crazy maneuvers. I think I'm super-prone to getting motion sick though, so I guess I'm just an anomaly. xD
